Main Engine Safety System Upgrade - RoPax Ferry
After failure of a Main Engine crankshaft, MJR were contracted to design and replace the safety systems on P&O European Ferries 'European Seafarer'.
The existing cassette and card based system was found to be unsafe as removal of cards to stop nuisance alarms could lead to inhibited operation of the automatic safety shutdown system.
The project involved:
- Design of a 'wire for wire' replacement system that could be quickly and easily integrated into the exisiting installation but with enhanced features and more robust operation.
- Preparation of design drawings and class approval.
- Equipment build and installation.
The success of the project lead to two other sister vessels being equipped with the same systems.
